  Abstract

Consensus reaching processes (CRPs) play an increasingly important role in the resolution of group decision making (GDM) problems: a solution acceptable to all the experts participating in a problem is necessary in many real-life contexts. The appearance of new requirements in GDM problems related to the group members involved due to new technology enablement, societal and technological trends, such as e-democracy and social networks, has provided a new trend in GDM as it is Large Scale Group Decision Making (LSGDM). In these problems CRPs keep playing the same key role to obtain group acceptable solutions or even more important because agreed solutions are harder.

Due to the fact that, in spite of the myriad of classical CRP models in the literature they have not shown themselves as a valid tool in LSGDM because of different reasons. Therefore, new challenges must be face within CRPs for LSGDM. This talk aims at dealing with two different objectives.

Firstly, it is revised and introduced a taxonomy that provides an overview and categorization of classical consensus models for group decision making problems under uncertainty, showing why do they fail to cope with LSGDM? And pointing out what are the new challenges that CRPs must overcome in LSGDM?

Secondly, taking into account that classical models focus on solving group decision making problems where few decision makers participate, but nowadays, societal and technological trends that demand the management of larger scales of decision makers, such as e-democracy and social networks, add a new requirements to the solution of consensus-based group decision making problems, such as:

A large number of consensus approaches have been proposed to support groups in such processes, each one with its own characteristics, such as the methods utilized for the fusion of information regarding the preferences of experts. Given this variety of existing approaches in the literature to support consensus reaching processes, this talk considers two main objectives.

i)The development of agent based models to deal with many decision makers.

ii)Increase the convergence of the consensus process keeping decision makers sovereign.

iii)Mechanisms to detect decision makers’ non-cooperative behaviours in consensus, which might bias the consensus reaching process.

iv)And monitoring tools to evaluate easily the evolution of the consensus process.
